how about a rotating photo posted daily.

    by Eden » Mon Nov 16, 2015 10:33 pm

how about a random rotating photo posted daily/weekly from the captures off the forum,
seeing as we don't do the cow any more.

or is that too hard to set up? (I would understand fully)

it might help create the feel of a live forum for visitors.

    just a thought

I don't mind Tim's capture staying there though if there is still to be something on the home page.

I was wondering the same thing. Would be nice to see on the home page. Even just a weekly/monthy image rotation would be nice.

    Good idea
I like the automated suggestion, like you say it keeps the site looking active from day to day even if it is going though a slow period of post activity.
Less work for admin than the COW was also.

The Not Safe For Work ones would need filtered somehow.

The most recently posted picture on the site might work well as a suggestion.

Something certainly needs to be done. I have been meaning to pipe up for some weeks now about the now-defunct COW being stagnant and so prominent. And (no offence to Beeb) I think the COW award on his profile reflects the same posr-nuclear landscape of the forum.

Perhaps if it is too much effort for the return offered by the site the COW panel could simply be deleted to make the stagnation less obvious.

It is a pretty sad state of affairs just at present and has the aura of palliative care, waiting for the inevitable.

i wouldnt mind seeing COM .... weekly was a little demanding, at least over a month the strain lessens. still reckon it was a good showcase.

The only reason I suggested daily is that someone new might be more inclined to visit daily rather than say weekly if there were a new photo each day.

If it were a weekly rotation the mentality might be more that they will stick their head in every week or so.

Quite a few sites have a similar insert at the top of the site page and these photos often get enough interest up for you to have a look at the thread it was from no matter how old the thread is.

Here is one site I frequent for the kitchen side of things but those photos have sucked me into delving deeper many a time.

daily might get a little more action happening on the forum ,

    and then it might not!

I wonder if a 'slideshow' of the archive of COW winners might be an attractive lure to new chums?

    Just thinking out loud.

    Fourthed

Even at 1 a day that is 16 months worth.

I was thinking more in terms of maybe 20 or 30 secs per image on endless rotation.

But it ain't that important the frequency or duration.

4 and a half hour rotation with 480ish cow images.

    sounds fine though

maybe all the captures nominated for the cow also. that would spread it out to 4 or 5 day rotation.
some of the early stuff is great but as you say it doesn't really matter.

it is just a way of hopefully livening things up a little

    #480 Cow rotation.
    I like it.
