    Palm Scanner

    by beeb » Sun Jan 25, 2015 2:27 am

A random experiment using a speedlite flash, a bit of black cardboard to mask the lightsource, my hand and the IR camera. Yep, that's light from the speedlite passing through my hand. The dark squiggles across the top of the palm are veins.

Sorry mate, might only be my left hand, but I still use it a fair bit... But on the photographic side, I'm pretty sure the principle holds up in colour. If you've got a speedlite and lead/remote trigger kicking around, it's not too hard to do. Though getting the mask to seal off the spill light is!

That's what I like to hear... :D Glad you like it mate, always good to experiment. Really it needs the light leaks between the mask and the hand sealed off better, but it's tricky to get it to fit properly around the webbing and fingers. Would probably have to (temporarily) use some sealant to get it working properly, but I'll wait until I've got a little studio setup to properly muck around with all these random little projects I come up with!
