My second generation Drobo arrived yesterday and I added a couple of 750gb SATA HDs, and all is now up and running. Setup and installation was very easy and now I can relax knowing that I am protected from an HD crash. What price peace of mind.

I've looked at these Drobos and they look terific except for one point.
Am I right in thinking they have hamstrung the transfer speed by only having USB connection from the Droboshare (ethernet/server) instead of using a Gigabit ethernet connection ?
I have ethernet cable running through my house and It would be much better if I could just plug the Drobo into one of the ethernet ports and get full gigabit speed, instead of having it choked down to USB speeds. Its a nice looking piece of gear but we don't really need one yet, so I think I'll wait till they sort out the gigabit ethernet connection.
