Just thinking it might be a good idea to get people to tell something of themselves in this, since teh inspiration for the thread was the work one.

What do you do for work
What do you do for fun (although I can see too many self portraits with a camera here)
How do you get around? Lame?
    etc

Could always get them to do a self portrait with a required prop like the Canon Photo5.

Something like "Self Portrait with something you use at work".

I like it, another theme we could intersperse would be 'the brief'

Approached from a working perspective, we outlay a brief to fulfill

Like Eggs or red wine etc, pick an everyday item and they have to do a product shot of it.

running on the same train of thought it could be any sort of creative advertising type brief, shorts, shoes etc

Person and a car (model or owner) for example

We have to be careful with these ideas, you don't want to alienate people that don't have access to off camera lighting.

I'm inclined to go a little more challenging for February. Something that will require a bit of effort but not too much as to discourage people.

A bit like the Canon Photo 5 comp where you have to include a certain object in your photo, but something that's easy to obtain.

Oh, by the way I heard back from that camera store, sort of. They are in Toowong in Brisbane and as such they are going to be out of action for a little while due to the floods. They will get back to us.

    Any ideas further on this?

I know what you are getting at, just can't think of anything right now.

Okay, so something everyone can get a hold of and cheap, if the don't already have one.

I keep thinking "egg", probably because there's one sitting on my desk, but maybe done a little to often.

On another note I got an email back from that Camera store.

    Hi Dale

Thank you for your response, and we are excited with a chance to work with you and DigitalSLR.

Regarding supporting the photography comp, this is something we would be interested in assisting with.
Perhaps initially we could offer a $50 voucher for the winner, and down the track for "grand prizes" of the winner of larger comp/winner of the year, we could look at giving a larger voucher or prize?

I would be interested in finding out who if any other sponsors there are in terms of advertising, and what kind of advertising space we would be able to look at?

We also have a professional writing a series of product reviews and "how to's" for us at the moment, with several high quality articles expected out each month. Is this something that would be of interest for your forum, or may it be deemed as "spamming"?

Please let me know your thoughts on this and any further questions.

    Regards

    Jesse

PS, do you guys know John Carnell by any chance?

If you didn't know already John Carnell is Sir Tristram.

Eggs would be ok, but is that what you want coming up to Easter? ie are we making it a challenge or a cliche?

    If I were to pick an everyday object, I would say . . . . .

the same, I can't think of anything different right now.

I like more themed ideas like hot or cold etc, but your idea of an object is a good one, I just can't htink of one myself.

I think the articles or reviews would be ok as a 'word from our sponsor' as long as there aren't a thousand posts of crap it shouldn't be an issue, if nothing else it would be sure to start some healthy debates and discussion.

I know John, I bought my background off him :D

    The 'prizes' sound good too.

As for advertising space etc, I'll happily leave all that to you as I have no idea :D

Did you want to give a deadline extension of a week?

Probably nothing to worry about while there are no prizes but we can firm up the rules from a bit of experimentation before that kicks in.

Yeah, we'll give them till the end of the week.

I'm starting to have second thoughts about the sponsorship, $50 a month for advertising is pretty cheap, I could pretty much handle that amount myself.

    I'll keep mulling it over.
