    New Forum Area: Photo Essay

    by Dalzine » Tue Aug 18, 2009 3:37 pm

The idea of having a way of posting more than the usual limit of 4 photos in a topic has been discussed before. Some people want to be able to post more than 4, some don't because of bandwidth issues. To that end we have created a new forum area called "Photo Essay" which has moved the restriction of 4 photos to 10. So if you have a story to tell and you need more than 4 photos to do it then this is the place for you.

Your photos must be related and tell a story. This does not include your holiday snaps of the family trip to Noosa, unless they're telling the story of how Aunt Maud floated out to sea on an old inner tube and was rescued by the Westpac rescue chopper.

We put this in it's own section so that folks with limited bandwidth can avoid if they want.

Normal photo size restrictions still apply, no bigger than 1024px on longest side and 200kb or less per photo.

    Dale.

To be honest i can't see the point of this section if it has a limit on the number of pics.

i was thinking this section would be for posting things like this ...

    http://bigred4x4.blogspot.com/2009/07/s ... ekend.html

and that takes about 30 pics.

some bigger stories could have more pics if it went for a couple of weeks

    around 100 pics

^^of course that would be the case for blogs/forums specifically related to the story but i think most ppl here would feel a bit silly posting 100 photos on the one story/event. a few highlights and a link to the flickr (or whatever) gallery would more than suffice imo.

im wondering why this site still walks on egg shells for the minority of dial up users. ive only had adsl for a few years but i never expected sites to pander to my needs when i lived in the dark ages. i accepted the slowness and just watched tv between page loads =p

im still curious as to how many ppl that access this site are in fact on dialup.
a poll with a 1mb photo should be enough to determine that ;)
i got pictures to prove it

That would be great if everyone posted 30 thumbnail images with links to the larger version elsewhere, but I seriously doubt that will happen. For a start how many posters know how to do a thumbnail link?

Let's try to keep it simple so anyone can post.

the problem is no one looks at the pics as they are too small and no one likes to click on links and move off the site they are on :(

One of the reasons I like it here is the restrictions on photos.. not only does it make it snappier to browse though all the threads ( and I can open them all up and not bog down my pc ) Posters get to choose their best pictures. so I think the quality of the images goes up!
