    Hard sell time

    by Ken182 » Sat Jul 12, 2008 6:56 pm

My wife and I are doing some serious longer term traveling soon.

I am currently wrestling with what compact camera to take, I have taken a real fancy to the Canon G9, most probably a lot to do with my rangefinder fetish. What I need from the Canon crowd is the hard sell as to why I should get one.

I am not hear to argue just here looking for the compelling thing that will open my wallet.

The other camera I am taking is my Mamiya TLR system - but its film so I won't bore you to death with that.

Ken a friend of mine who shoots fishing stuff uses a G9 some of his stuff and the photos are amazing.
His main camera is a 5D.

It's the only compact I would have..

I am looking at an LX2 for a light carry and travel camera, Margo wants a compact I want something that will shoot raw files.

Reviews I have read are quite interesting.

I could never be seen in public with any form of a Canon camera

Let me see, hard sell on G9 for family trip away..............thru the question asked you obviously care about the quality of your family vacation snaps don't you Ken?......."yes I care about the quality"

And you care about correct colour rendition since your a working pro Ken,..."yes I care about colour"

You also would probably care about having a quick play in manual mode to with resolution up there with most big DSLR's of a different brand......"yes, yes Steve I do care"...........easy Ken, I'm not sure whether your ready for the answer........"gimme the damn camera Steve!"

Well Ken, what portable camera would you fell happy about recommending to important clients of your own........"um, Canon"

Well Ken, would that be cash or credit for the G9 then!

    Ken,

My attempt at humour aside ....

I would not bother looking at any other P&S digital camera other than the Panasonic Lumix LX2.

Well team I have sweet talked the local Canon rep into loaning me a G9 for a couple of weeks to see how it performs.

Am still trying to line up the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 for a similar trial.

Will see if I am technically able to post some images.

    cheers
