[Unofficial] Weekly Challenge - Week 2 - "Halves"

    by beeb » Sun Jan 10, 2016 4:32 pm

    Week 2 Theme - "Halves" (Week 1 ends 17th of January 2016)

Alright folks, this week you're on the lookout for halves! Half of this, half of that. Looks forward to seeing your shots!

There's nothing at stake, no winners or losers, so feel free to get involved and have some fun. You can take it as seriously or playfully as you like, as long as the theme is somewhat recogniseable!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Challenge guidelines:

    1) Up to 3 images accepted - but if posting more than one image the images should all be significantly different - ie: 1x Landscape, 1x Macro shot, and 1x Portrait is fine, but 3 pictures of your dog chasing a frisbie would be considered "too similar", even if lighting conditions are different or different angles are used. Different interpretations of the theme is the aim if posting multiple shots.

    2) Images should be "Safe for Work" (no nudity, implied nudity, etc...).

    3) All images should be taken within the specified time frame. This one's not a rule, but the aim of the challenge is to think about the theme, interpret, and get out and shoot!

    4) There is no set equipment - as long as the image presented is a photo of some type, any medium/method is allowed. Film camera, cameraphone, point and shoot, mirrorless, D-SLR, Polaroid, whatever!

    5) Editing, be it digital or darkroom is allowed.

This was taken the day before you posted the "Halves" theme but my heas was there for the Symmetry aspect.

I will make an effort to get one more in even though I cant scratch my donkey over the next 6 weeks as I am working on the house ready for sale.

No excuse to not get the camera out and think a little as a breather and sanity break :)

Easy tiger! Mine will most likely have to wait for the weekend, not a lot of free time during the week at the moment...

I like the indoor shot, good balance. I will absorb it better when I can see it on my PC.

Aaah, how can we ever understand the yearning of life's longing for itself? Here the power of new life has been such that the seed of a eucalypt has cleft in twain a solid block of sandstone.

Are the pieces of equal mass to be 'halves'? Or it enough that the rock is split in two?

I really like this shot Walter.

    It reeks of Determination.

that is a cool looking chunk of sandstone also, is there lots like it around this area or has it been left there?

It would be interesting to revisit in a few years.

    Good idea.

They would make an interesting framed pair.

Looks like it would have been fiddly.

Thanks mate. Apart from trying not to slice my fingers when I was halving the flowerheads, it was actually pretty easy! I just had the flower halves "mounted" on the end of a toothpick (hidden behind the stem), with the toothpick held in a clamp so as to be able to change the backgrounds and lighting more easily between the shots.

And a lazy one from the backyard earlier.

My longest focal length being 105mm was a little limiting, lol. At least there was some swirly cloud to add some detail. :)
